Our favourite places to eat

La Italiana
This pizza place is right by the supermarket Chedraui and we quite often get take outs from there. Order your pizzas as you go in to do your grocery shopping and they’re ready to collect as you leave.
For those travelling from Europe, arriving with jet-lag as we do, we tend to drop our bags at the Villa and settle in and then head to Chedraui for a bit of a shop and our pizza which takes care of that first night when we’re tired and not wanting to cook.

El Merkedito
This is Mexican and seafood with an international spin and a flair in its presentation. Taco chips come in paper bags, guacamole in a mortar and margaritas in tin cups. Good portions. Very friendly service and sometimes live music.
El Merkedito is on the beach. For the townside entrance get to the square and walk towards the sea on the north side, Take the left road parallel to the coast and El Merkedito is a block or so on your right.

Los Gauchos
Local choice for empanadas.  Lovely and served elegantly with little flags identifying type. Margaritas in local painted glasses. Good salads and seafood specials. Great value.
On the square, turn west by the church and Los Gauchos is on your left.

La Mar
Off the beaten track, a brunch cafe belonging to Pablo Espinosa, a serious chef.   It is in the mall with Super Aki as you approach Puerto Morelos from the north. Delicious everything! Open 8 to 4 except Sundays.

Panna e Cioccolato
Our kids want to tell you about the little ice-cream booth on the north side of the square; large scoops, friendly staff and good value.

Punta Corcho
On the south side of the square, upstairs and overlooking the square and Los Pelicanos.   There is a staircase up to it which is a bit tricky to find, hidden between the gift shops. This is a modern, classy take on Mexican cuisine. One for a special meal.

Inland in the “real” Puerto Morelos
There are many delicious local cheap places to get fresh tacos etc. Find your favourite. Everything is fresh and delicious.
